Simple joys: A Response

you reached out to me in an orderly fashion
not minding any of my provinciality
i knew that you belong to the higher echelon
and me from such simple mediocrity

i asked you if things that sparkle matter
you said "no" in such a cordial manner
i never thought i'd find someone better
you even raised me proudly like a banner

but things started to unfold
your friends looked down on me
tried to find faults that can't even be told
and you told me to let you be

flabbergasted and in extreme confusion
i went to you and tried to deliberate
but you won't listen to my explanation
thinking all of this was a ploy to manipulate

i hear you have a new friend that's fascinating
with resources that would make your ears clap
your friends were silent all so suddenly gratifying
i cant help myself but ask, what of the materialistic gap?
